KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl), a movie focused on Afghanistaninfo-icon, has won the Oscar for this year’s Best Documentary (Short Subject).

The 92nd annual Academy Awards took place tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where the documentary beat two other short films, purewow.com (reported on Monday.

Best Documentary (Short Subject) goes to movies whose run times are up to 40 minutes long. All the nominees could be binge-watched in a short time.

Learning To Skateboard In A Warzone, set in Afghanistan and directed by Carol Dysinger and Elena Andreicheva, is focused on a class of girls, who find solidarity through the unlikeliest of pass times.

The young girls from disadvantaged neighbuorhoods of Kabul learn to read and write, and grow together in confidence through the joy of skateboarding over a decade and a half.
