JALALABAD (Pajhwok): People in eastern Nangarhar province have protested the killing of eight civilians, including a child by government forces and demanded investigation into the incident.

The protesters carried the bodies to the district centre and blamed government forces for blind bombing in which civilians suffered casualties.

Eight civilians, including a child, were killed in an airstrike on civilian vehicle in the Sra Road district on Friday.

Haji Syed Ajan, who lost three sons in the airstrike, said his sons were killed in the airstrike on Friday when they were returning from Khogyani district where the referred to the district office to file case against the missing of their cow.

Momin Khan Mullakhel, the peace committee member for Maidan Wardak province whose cousin was killed in the airstrike, said they had no relation with any militant groups. Three of his relatives were killed in the airstrike who are innocent.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor spokesperson, acknowledged the incident and added investigation into the airstrike had been launched.

“Unfortunately eight people including a child were killed in the airstrike the purpose of which was the suppress militants. Militants often launched attacks in the area and bothered people.”

Separately, the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) told media that nine militants, including notorious commander, were killed in the airstrike.

The Talibaninfo-icon in a statement said that security forces bombarded two vehicles of civilians in the Kakrak locality of Sra Road district in which 11 civilians were killed.
