Guterres in Islamabad to attend conference on refugees

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The United Nations chief arrived in Islamabad on Sunday to attend a two-day international conference on Afghan refugees in Pakistaninfo-icon

Radio Pakistan reported, Secretary General António Guterres was received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Munir Akram and senior officials of the Foreign Office.

Guterres will address the conference '40 Years of Hosting Afghan Refugees in Pakistan'. The two-day event will take place in Islamabad on February 17-18.

Organised by Pakistan and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the conference will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Senior US officials will also be in attendance.

Guterres will meet Prime Minister Imran and other government officials, including Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. He will also speak at an event on sustainable development and climate change.
