Ghani starts consultations on possible peace deal

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has started consultative meetings on creation of national consensus for peace talks, an official said on Monday.

Presidential spokesperson Sediq Sediqi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the process of consultation would continue until the end of this ongoing week.

As part of the consultations, he said the president would first meet with different commissions of the Consultative Peace Jirgainfo-icon and hold talks with governors of 34 provinces.

Sediqi said recent developments in peace talks were an opportunity but the president wanted to consult the masses on possible threats attached with the opportunity.

About creation of an Afghan delegation for talks with the Talibaninfo-icon, Sediqi said work on the creation of a delegation was underway and there was no hurdle in this process.

President Ghani embarks on consultation process amid reports that the US, Taliban deal is very near and would be signed soon.
