Kandahar’s Dahla dam fills up ahead of time

Kandahar’s Dahla dam fills up ahead of time

Feb 18, 2020 - 20:04

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Dahla dam in southern Kandahar province has filled up ahead of time for the first time in 30 year, thanks to heavy downpours this year, say officials.

A farmer in Shah Walikot district, Haji Akhtar Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Dahla dam water rose to its highest levels two month ahead of the time.

He hoped there would be enough irrigation water next year and farmers would get bumper yield of wheat and fruits.  However, he asked the government to act on its promise of raising the dam’s walls.

Arghandab River Authority head Engineer Tooryalai Mehboobi said heavy rains filled up the Dahla dam two months ahead of time this year.

He said survey, design and other related works had been completed and work on raising the dam’s walls would be launched soon.
