Policeman injured in attack on MPs in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A policeman was injured during an exchange of fire with unknown gunmen who attacked three Wolesi Jirga members in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Thursday.

The incident happened in Meyana locality of Chamkani district, said the District Police Chief, Jameel Hotak.

He said the Wolesi Jirga members, Yar Baz Hameed, Naseeb Muqbel and Ibrahim Ghashtali, were on their way to Dand-i-Patan district for a dispute resolution when they were targeted by armed men.

“The gunmen fired some shots at the vehicles of police and a lawmaker, but there was no report of casualties,” he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
