Prioritise peace, NATO urges all Afghan parties

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon’s Senior Civilian Representative (SCR) for Afghanistaninfo-icon Sir Nicholas Kay on Monday asked all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint.

In a tweet, Kay urged all parties to prioritise the peace process and national unity. He made it clear NATO did not support actions by any party that could fuel tensions or the risk of violence.

“Calm, dialogue and compromise by all political leaders is needed. Urge all parties to prioritise the peace process and national unity…” he wrote.

As part of an understanding with the US, the Talibaninfo-icon have already entered a week-long reduction in violence period across Afghanistan.

If the militant movement abides by its commitment, a US-Taliban treaty on ending the war in Afghanistan could be signed at the end of the current moth.
