KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): More than 50 alleged war crimes by the Australian special forces in Afghanistaninfo-icon are being investigated, media report said on Tuesday.

The allegations included the killing of civilians and prisoners, SBS News said, citing a report from the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force.

As many as 55 incidents were under investigation as part of a probe into claims the Australian troops committed war crimes while serving in Afghanistan.

"The inquiry is not focused on decisions made during the 'heat of battle'," the annual report said. At least 338 witnesses have been probed so far, with the inquiry approaching the final stages of evidence-taking.

The military watchdog said the investigations pertained to the killing of non-combatants during operations from 2005 to 2016, as well as the cruel treatment of these people.
