1,600 people referred to judiciary over land-grab this year

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MUDH) on Wednesday said around 1,600 people have been referred to judiciary organs over land grabbing during the ongoing solar yearinfo-icon that ends on March 21.

Mohammad Jawad Paikar, acting urban development and housing minister, provided this information during a conference here today.

He said they were able to recover around 250,000 acres of land from grabbers with the help of security forces and 15,831 people involved were referred to judiciary organs.

Strongmen and law breakers were among the land grabbers, he said without giving more details.

Paikar said 2.75 million acres of government land and 750,000 acres of pastures were surveyed and registered last fiscal year.

He said his ministry was trying to allocate four million acres of government land for implementation of welfare projects.

Based on the annual plan, 800,000 unplanned houses have been surveyed and 25,000 owners of these houses issued ownership documents this year, he added.

Paikar said 5,764 apartments were distributed to displaced families and returning refugees and 200,000 more would be given to entitled families over the next four years.

He said 27,000 acres of land would be distributed to families of martyred Afghan defense and security forces.

For now, the ministry would allocate some land plots for teachers and schools, he said.

He said the ministry’s total development budget was 5.5 billion afghanis last fiscal year and 87 percent of that had been spent.

Telecommunications and information technology minister Fahim Hashemi, also presented annual report about of his ministry’s performance and said that the ministry’s revenue increased by 43 percent this solar year.

He said his ministry was given 6.3 billion afghanis revenue target, but they collected nine billion afghanis this year.

Hashemi said the ministry would connect all government institutes and a number of schools with the internet with the help of the international community next academic year.

“If the parliament approves the cyber crime law, it would help ensure safety on social media platforms”, he said.
