EU urges Afghan politicians to work together for peace

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): European Union (EU)’s special representative for Afghanistaninfo-icon development on Wednesday expressed his support for President Ashraf Ghani’s programs and encouraged Afghan politicians to work together for the success of the peace process.

A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that President Ghani met with Roland Kobia at his office this morning.

At the meeting, Kobia said, “I came with the message to support the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, because it means supporting democracy, law enforcement and the government. The EU would be on side of the Afghanistan state and our assistance would continue.”

Kobia expressed his support for programs of President Ashraf Ghani for the development of Afghanistan and hoped Afghan politicians would work together for the success of peace in their country.

The president thanked the EU for reaffirming continued support to Afghanistan and said, “Peace is the high demand of our people and it is responsibility and priority of the government. We have created a national consensus on peace.”

Ghani said the peace process was related to all Afghans and he has consulted with different classes of societyinfo-icon about opportunities and possible risks in the way.

He said the government was fully ready to use opportunities and respond to probable risks in the peace process.
