Tajikistan boosts control of border with Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): After the emergence of the first confirmed coronavirus case in Herat province, Tajikistan has strengthened the control of security checkpoints on its border with Afghanistaninfo-icon.

All travelers entering Tajikistan through the border with Afghanistan would have to pass medical examination, AKIpress reported on Tuesday, citing local officials.

Tajik Deputy Minister of Healthinfo-icon Mirhamuddin Kamolzoda said: “We have decided to toughen control at border check points with Afghanistan.”

“Our specialists are currently on the border and the situation is under control. We are cooperating with Afghan agencies to prevent the spread of coronavirus to our country,” he added.

The Health Ministry in Dushanbe wants anybody coming from China to remain in quarantine for a period of two weeks. No coronavirus case has been reported yet in the Central Asian state.
