KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The NATOinfo-icon chief says any concerns about Afghanistaninfo-icon’s electoral process should be addressed in accordance with constitutional and legal procedures.

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: “I note the final results of last September’s presidential election announced by the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon).”

He commended the determination of the Afghans, who exercised their democratic right to vote in the elections, and paid tribute to the security forces for their professionalism and bravery to secure the vote.

In a statement, Stoltenberg said: “I call on all Afghan political actors to refrain from taking steps that would escalate tensions and undermine political stability.”

Any concerns about the electoral process should be addressed according to legal procedures, the secretary-general stressed.

All responsible political forces must engage in dialogue and unite behind the peace process, a priority for all Afghans, he said.

Firmly committed to Afghanistan’s long-term stability, NATO continues to provide the security forces with training and financial support so that they could fight terrorism and create the conditions for peace, he concluded.
