KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Tens of residents of central Daikundi province are demanding the removal of the governor and an investigation into the transfer of 23 million afghanis to his private account.

Ahmad Etemadi, a resident of Daikunid who spoke on behalf of others, said: “Documents show the 23 million afghanis were for governor, his deputy and district chiefs, but it was transferred to the private account of Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati.”

Etemadi said a separate account should have been created for this fund in coordination with IDLG.

Yaqoub, another resident, said: “We want the removal of Rahmati and want the government authorities concerned to investigate the issue.”

Recently, Provincial Council members expressed similar views, but Daikundi governor said the government had credited the amount into his personal account, but the fund was spent through a transparent procedure and no personal attempt had been made to use the fund for other purposes.
