42 Daesh rebels surrender, turn in weapons in Kunar

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok):  Dozens of Daesh or so-called Islamic State militants have surrendered to the government in two districts of eastern Kunar province, the governor said on Sunday.

Numbering 42, the insurgents surrendered to police in Sawaki and Narang districts and turned in their weapons, Governor Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal told a ceremony welcoming the former rebels.

He said the surrendering Daesh men included their commander known as Karamullah Rakati. The governor said Daesh was facing defeat in Kunar and the only option with the group was to surrender to the government.

He said Daesh and Lashkar-i-Tayyiba had presence in a limited areas and they would be suppressed soon.
