Baghlan gathering calls for active women role in peace talks

Baghlan gathering calls for active women role in peace talks

Mar 07, 2020 - 20:27

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Hundreds of womeninfo-icon and civil societyinfo-icon activists at a gathering in northern Baghlan province demanded protection of women rights during the peace talks.

Addressing the gathering, gender affairs in charge at the Governor House said that they fully supported all steps towards peace in the country.

She, however, said: “Every decision during peace talks should ensure protection of women rights.” She warned any agreement that harms women rights was not acceptable to them.

Sosan Wafa, one of the participants of the gathering, said that sidelining women from politics was intentionally underway and according to her, it was a huge injustice.

“Those who give the slogans of women rights and consider themselves as champions have never been honest in their struggle,” she said.

Wafa added without Afghan women, peace talks were incomplete and would yield no advantage.
