Time to change conflict into unity, says Miakhel

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nangarhar Governor Shah Mahmood Miakhel has said ‘the time has arrived to change the ongoing conflict into unity and establish a stable system.’

Miakhel was addressing a gathering of elders of uprising forces at the National Directorate of Security in this eastern city of Jalalabad on Saturday.

He hailed sacrifices of local uprising members, calling them “true heroes” of Nangarhar who suppressed terrorists.

He said the ongoing fight in Afghanistaninfo-icon was externalinfo-icon and imposed on Afghans who with their unity could expel the outsider conflict from their country.

He said the Talibaninfo-icon would earn 26 million afghanis by selling natural resources in Sherzad and Khogyani districts and 14 million afghanis from agricultureinfo-icon land on the Jalalabad Torkham road.

Miakhel said with support of local uprising groups, security forces stopped the Taliban from collecting these massive amounts.

He asked the Taliban to tell the afghans where and how they spent thte money.

NDSinfo-icon Chief for Nangarhar Gen. Nazar Ali said Taliban targeted people in funeral, mosques, schools, seminaries and other religious places because they had no courage to face the Afghan forces.

He said security forces with support of local uprising groups dismantled Taliban safe havens and established security.

He directed the vising elders to talk to the Taliban and encourage them to reconcile and stop fighting.
