TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Some historic sites in central Uruzgan province are used as trenches and military posts, an official said on Tuesday.

Ghulam Nabi Ulfat, cultural and mobile services department director, told a gathering here that 136 transferable and none-transferable historic sites were registered with them in the province.

He said among these sites Sulaiman Takhat, Bozecha, Kafer Kala and Kala-e-Murcha have huge historic importance.

He regretted that no work could be done to protect historic sites and some were being used as trenches and military posts in the ongoing conflict.

He said historic Bozecha tunnel north of Tirinkot was being used as a military trench since many years.

“The use of historic sites in the conflict and for military purposes is dangerous for these sites which could be demolished.”

Security officials, however, said they were unaware of the fact that historic sites were used for military purpose.

Police Chief Brig. Gen. AzeemHashami said he recently took charge as police chief and was unaware if historic sites were used for military purposes.
