ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Hundreds of religious scholars in eastern Kunar province on Wednesday welcomed recent development in the peace process and urged permanent ceasefire in the country.

The gathering in Asadabad City, the provincial capital, called on the warning parties to declare permanent ceasefire instead of reduction in violence.

Religious scholar Mualvi Mohammad Anwar urged the warning parties to respect each other and resolve their issues via negotiations.

He said, “We want peace, we are tired of war, the Talibaninfo-icon should address their conflict with the Afghan government through peace negotiations.”

According to him, only Afghans have been giving sacrifices in the ongoing conflict.

Mualvi Niamatullah, another scholar, urged the Taliban to stop the war and sit with the Afghan government for peace talks.

He said the Afghans could no more tolerate the cries of orphans and widows and the Taliban should cease fighting for the benefits of foreigners in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

He also urged the Afghan government to address its conflict with the Taliban through talks not war.

A number of other religious scholars held similar views and called on the warning parties to address their issues via peace talks.
