129 Nuristan schools to get buildings next year

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Local educationinfo-icon officials say 129 schools in eastern Nuristan province would get new buildings during next solar yearinfo-icon to resolve the problem of students studying in the open.

There are 214 schools in the province and 74 percent of them are without buildings and students in these schools face multiple problems.

Mohammad Amini Hamad, education director, told Pajhwok Afghan News there were a total of 214 schools including 103 middle and 28 high in Nuristan.

He said 38 of the schools were for girls and primary classes in most schools were attended by girls and boys.

 He said only 50 of the schools had buildings and 74 percent lacked structure.

However, Governor Hafiz Abdul Qaium told Pajhwok that 129 schools would get new buildings next solar year.

He said schools would get new building under a joint program of the Ministry of Rural, Rehabilitation and Development and Ministry of Education.

He said construction work on 20 school buildings was currently underway and was 50 percent done.

Meanwhile, Eng. SadullahPaindaZoy, a member of the provincial council, said a large number of students in the province were studying under open sky.

He said lack of professional teachers in Nuristan was another issue for students.
