HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Religious and Hajjinfo-icon Affairs Department of western Herat province on Monday announced banning Fateha ceremonies and called for holding mass prayers in the open to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the province.

The decision was made by the Religious and Hajj Affairs Department and a number of religious scholars at a gathering in Herat City, the provincial capital, today.

Sayed Mohammad Shirzadi, the religious and hajj department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were ready to suspend mass prayers in mosques if the coronavirus risk increased in the province.

He said praying individually at home was not banned in Islam or against the principles of Islam.

He said patients with cold and headache had been asked not to attend mass prayers at mosques.

He also chided those ulemainfo-icon who believed the coronavirus only infected non-Muslims, saying the history showed different diseases took lives of Muslims and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) also termed own protection as mandatory.
