6 shopkeepers detained for overpricing in Parwan

CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Police have arrested six shopkeepers for selling food items at inflated rates in central Parwan province, an official said on Tuesday.

Police Chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Mahfuz Walizadah told Pajhwok Afghan News the shopkeepers were detained when they were transporting dozens of tons of food items from Charikar, the provincial capital, to Seyagard district.

He said three shipments in Seyagard and two shipments in Shinwari districts were prevented from being smuggled outside the city and confiscated and returned back to the market.

He said the six shopkeepers were held in connection with the seizure and their shops were sealed in the city.He said the detainees planned to sell the food items at higher prices in districts.

Mohammad Akram, a store owner, in the provincial capital, told Pajhwok that the price of 49 kilogram of Kazak flour increased from 1,600 afghanis to 2,100 afghanis and the same quantity of the Pakistani sugar increased from 2,350 afghanis to 3,500 afghanis.

He said the price of 16 litter Khurshid ghee jumped from 1,150 afghanis to 1,400 afghanis, a 24 kilogram of Pakistani rice price from 2,100 to 3,500 afghanis during the last three days.

A daily earlier, the Ministry of Interior asked people to inform police if they spotted someone sealing food items at inflated rates in cities or call 119 police helpline.
