Senate asks govt to unveil negotiating team forthwith

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon members on Tuesday stressed the need for resolution to political differences and asked the government to specify the list of negotiating team for intra-Afghan talks.

Senator Gulalai Akbari from Badakhshan province told today’ session that there was a golden chance for achieving peace and current political differences should not harm the peace process.

Earlier this month, the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) declared Ghani the winner of the presidential election of September 28, 2019.

But his main political rival Dr. Abdullah, who was announced the runner-up, rejected the vote outcome as manipulated, is working to constitute a parallel cabinet.

Akbari urged the international community to resolve the current political crisis in Afghanistaninfo-icon so it did not halt peace talks.

Mohammad Jan Mangal, senator from southeastern Paktia province, demand peace in the country. He said due to current differences in government, the peace delegation could not be named.

Mohammad HanifHanafi, lawmaker from central Uruzgan province, called on government to unveil the list of negotiating team because delaying the process would harm intra-Afghan negotiations.

Other senators also demanded early identification of negotiating team for intra-Afghan talks.

Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar praised the developments in the peace process and called for more steps and acceleration of the process.

“We should not mind who is in the delegation, there is no issue who is selected because the team will negotiate on behalf of the government and people of Afghanistan,” he remarked.

Muslimyar also called for early announcement of negotiating team for intra-Afghan talks in order to succeed the talks.
