3 persons who return from Iran die of illness in Ghor

FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Local officials say three persons who recently returned from Iran have died of an unknown disease, possibly of coronavirus, in western Ghorinfo-icon province.

Haji Abdulahad, acting administrative chief of Pasaband district, said on Wednesday that they were concerned about the spread of coronavirus in the province.

He said the three people who recently arrived from Iran lost their lives to an unknown disease in Shirlas village of Pasaband district.

He said Shirlas village was 80 kilometers away from the district center where no facilities such as schools, clinics and others were unavailable. “There is even no road for vehicles and motorcycles”, he added.

Many people return from Iran legally and illegally to Pasaband district on a daily basis without any medical checkup, he added.

On the other hand, Habibullah Radminsh, deputy governor of Ghor, confirmed the issue and said the village where the deaths took place was currently under quarantine.

“We have no full access to six districts of Ghor; these districts share long borders with other provinces and there is a limited movement in the areas due to impassable routes. Unfortunately three people who returned from Iran have died,” he said.

Radminsh said the public healthinfo-icon department of the province was trying to find the reason behind the death of these people.

He added that the area shared border with Helmand province and it was under Talibaninfo-icon control.

On the other hand, a number of civil societyinfo-icon activists in Ghor said that people of the province maintain movements with Herat province for business and shopping.

Zabihullah, a resident, said people returning directly went to their homes without being tested or quarantined.

“No measures have been taken for prevention and diagnosis of diseases in districts, which is a serious problem.”

“We want the government to task some mobile health teams at the entry gates to the provincial capital to check people coming from Iran so they do not carry viruses with themselves,” he said.

Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman of MoPH, told Pajhwok that they have sent a team to the area for investigating the issue.

He asked the Taliban to help the team in the area which was under their control.

“We have sent a team to the area, we hope the Taliban would help the ministry to find out what has happened,” he said.

Mayar said many people suspected of coronavirus were in quarantine in Ghor and their blood samples had been sent to Kabulinfo-icon for testing.
