10 more positive Covid-19 cases take tally to 34 in Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Healthinfo-icon (MoPH) on Sunday said 10 more positive cases of coronavirus, including two foreign diplomats, have been registered in Afghanistaninfo-icon in the past 24 hours.

Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz told reporters here 97 suspected cases had been tested in the past 24 hours in which 10 were positive.

Of the recent positive coronavirus cases, two were in capital Kabul, three in Herat, two in Zabul and one each in Kandahar, Balkh and Ghazni provinces, he said.

According to Ferozuddin the two positive cases in Kabul were related to two diplomats who had been dispatched to Bagram Airbase for treatment.

He said 220 suspected cases, including two members of the parliament, had been registered in Kabul.

The health minister said that new suspected cases of coronavirus surfaced from areas under the Talibaninfo-icon control in Helmand, Farah, Kandahar and Kunduz provinces.

Feroz recommended that Herat province should be quarantined and curfew should be imposed during the day in order to stop the spread of deadly virus.

He also recommended strict measures in capital Kabul because there is the possibility of the virus spread.

 He said the facilities of screening; quarantine and spray were under consideration in the prisons to ensure the well-being of prisoners.

He urged that people should avoid gatherings and individuals over 60 years of age should stay at home.

Feroz also suggested the use of vitamin D in order to increase the immune system of the body.
