‘Taliban delegation soon in Kabul for talks on prisoners’

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A Talibaninfo-icon delegation may arrive in Kabul in coming days for talks on the release of prisoners, a well-place government source said on Friday.

The Taliban Qatar Office Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen told reporters that their delegation will enter Kabul on Friday to hold talks with Afghan government on prisoners release.

“The leadership of the Islamic Emirates Afghanistaninfo-icon appointed a 15-member delegation which will enter Kabul on Friday with the support of the ICRC and its responsibility is discussion regarding the release of prisoners. These talks are of international nature.”

But Javid Faisal, spokesperson for the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon), said the Taliban delegation may enter Kabul today or tomorrow.

Another well-placed government source wishing not to be named said: “A Taliban delegation was expected to reach Kabul today which did not come and may come tomorrow.”

This comes as government already announced a 21-member delegation to advance peace talks with the Taliban.

The delegation is headed by former NDS Head Masoum Stanikzai.
