HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Friday congregations not offered in 700 mosques in western Herat province in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, an official said.

Syed Mohammad Sherzad, director Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs of Herat, told Pajhwok Afghan News with the growing spread of coronavirus Friday prayers have not been offered in Herat City.

He said Friday and congregation prayers could be offered in 50 mosques under the leadership of Maulviinfo-icon Khadadad led Western Zone Ulemainfo-icon Council.

“A total of 750 small and big mosques are functional in the City in which 50 are under the influence of Ulema Council while the remaining mosques had been closed for Friday prayer.”

He said if the virus further spread government could order closure of all mosques in the city and districts.
