KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has been urged to bring home stranded Sikh families from Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Indian Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh tweeted on Saturday: “Many Sikh families want to be flown out of Afghanistan. Request you to get them airlifted at the earliest...”

Also on Saturday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) offered to rehabilitate Afghan Sikhs if they migrated to India, according to The Hindustan Times.

It also announced financial aid to the families of victims of the March 25 terrorist attack in Kabul. The Islamic State-claimed assault on the temple killed 27 Sikhs.

“Looking at the threat received by Afghan Sikhs, the government of India should make efforts to help them,” said SGPC head Gobind Singh Longowal.

He urged New Delhi to approach the Afghan government to ensure their security and bring them to India. The SGPC will bear responsibility for their overall settlement.”
