Ghazni locks down amid rise in coronavirus cases

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The provincial government on Monday decided to impose a lockdown and restrict traveling in southern Ghaniz province to check the coronavirus spread.

Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the local administration had decided to impose the lockdown from Monday in Ghazni city, the provincial capital.

He said the local administration, headquarters, entertainment venues, wedding hall, sportsinfo-icon venues, salmons and public baths would stay closed across Ghazni province.

He said in order to meet people’s daily needs, healthinfo-icon centers, pharmacies, grocery shops, fuel stations, banks, bathrooms, telecommunications facilities and butcher shops would be open in the province.

The governor said a committee has been tasked with spraying disinfectants and another committee has been formed to enforce lockdown orders and take action against violators.

Rahimullah, a resident said: "Corona is a dangerous disease; we are happy that the government has imposed some restrictions, the whole worldinfo-icon says people should be quarantined.”

But a shopkeeper, said,  "There are a lot of people who work as day laborers, it is very difficult for them to stay home as they have nothing to eat.”
