Taliban move to check coronavirus spread in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants have established two quarantine centres for coronavirus patients in northern Baghlan province.

Qari Khalild, Taliban’s public healthinfo-icon head, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had put in place effective measures for preventing the coronavirus in the province.

The health centres had been set up in Dahna Ghori and Baghlan Markazi districts, he said, adding they taken measures to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past few days, Khalid said, the Taliban had organised public awareness programmes on how to prevent the disease besides distributing masks and gloves to locals.

“We have been emphasising on the people the need for social distancing and staying indoors. We also asked locals to inform us about new arrivals from Iran.”

Maulviinfo-icon Abdul Rahman, a local Taliban member, said those who called the virus a joke were ignorant. He stressed the need for determined steps to battle the virus.

Abdul Aziz, a resident of Dahna Ghori district, told Pajhwok he had received information packages about the coronavirus outbreak.

Nazeer Najam, the governor’s spokesman, said fighting the coronavirus was a joint duty of all Afghans. The government, he added, had asked all people to join hands in battling the vrus.
