Apr 02, 2020 - 11:07

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Livestock Products Union (LPU) says on Wednesday that prices of poultry and eggs surged 55 percent after restriction imposed on movement due to the spread of coronavirus nationwide.

Syed Ahmad Kohdamani, deputy head of the LPU, said there is enough stock of eggs and chickens in the farms but could not be delivered to the market due to restrictions on transport.

He said the price of eggs surged from 650 afs to 1,350 afs in the provinces where complete lock down had been imposed.

“As a result of quarantine and restriction imposed on movement the price of 180 eggs surged from 650 afs to 1,350 afs,” he said.

Earlier the Agricultureinfo-icon ministry vowed to have 80 percent domestic products when it comes to eggs but now eggs are being stored in some farms but not allowed to be dispatched to the market, he said.

Ansarullah Bakhtani, head of the Afghan Mayar Eggs Farm, said the import of ggs had been stopped since the coronavirus epidemic but local farms continue to dispatch their products to the market.

Maroof Zafar, head of the National Poultry Trade Union, acknowledged sure in the egg price and said in the past 180 eggs were sold at 750 afs but now the prices increased to 950 afs which is not a big surge.

He said the 200 afs surge happened due to transport issues.
