Ghani picks Arghandiwal as finance minister nominee

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said this time the Cabinet would be formed of individuals having roots in the masses and political skills, a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Thursday.

The president said this while addressing a gathering with regard to introduction of Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal to the Ministry of Finance as acting finance minister.

Eng. Elham Umar Hotaki, acting head of the Administrative Affairs, read out the presidential order regarding nomination of Arghandiwal as presidential pick for the minister of finance portfolio to the parliament for a vote of confidence and his appointment as acting minister of finance.

Arghandiwal hailed Ghani’s trust in him for transferring an important responsibility to him in critical situation and added his focus would be on fighting corruption, reforms, coordination and close cooperation with the private sector.

Ghani thanked Arghandiwal for accepting the responsibility and said: “I want to introduce faces to the ministry with strong roots in public, political weight and strong administrative and political commitment.”

Referring to the fight against coronavirus, the president said the Afghan government was leading the fight against the virus and national and international institutions were ready to support the Afghan government
