KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s coronavirus tally has surged to 349 with the emergence of 12 new cases in western Herat and Nimroz provinces, an official said on Sunday.

Dr. Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), told Pajhwok Afghan News the new cases had been registered in the past 24 hours----nine in Herat and three in Nimroz provinces.

Mayar added the total number of coronavirus patients in the country had reached 349. Eight individuals have been so far lost their lives to COVID-19 while another 12 have recovered.

Earlier today, Mayar said 10 positive cases were detected in Kabulinfo-icon, eight in Kandahar, three in Paktia, as many in Balkh, two in Samangan and one each in Kapisa, Takhar and Zabul provinces.

Mayar warned of more corona cases surfacing in the days ahead. Kabul and Herat provinces have been under lockdown. “It’s movement restriction, not a complete quarantine,” Mayar said.
