Taliban’s district police chief among 7 killed in Wardak firefight

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon’s shadow police chief for the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province has been killed along with seven associates, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Sunday.

In a statement, the MoD said militants stormed security check-posts in the district late on Saturday night. Commander Qari Javed, the Taliban’s district police chief, and seven other fighters killed.

In retaliatory gunfire from the security personnel, eight insurgents were wounded, the statement added. The rebels have not yet commented on the firefight.

Another statement from MoD said three Taliban militants were killed and as many wounded in a clash with the security forces in the Miawand district of southern Kandahar province.
