Iran to treat Afghan Covid-19 patients free of cost

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jawad Zarif held a telephonic conversation and discussed the Afghan refugees’ healthinfo-icon situation in the neighboring country.

Nearly 2.5 million Afghan refugees live in Iran and recently thousands of them returned back to the country due coronavirus spread in Iran.

 A statement from the Presidential Palace Media’s office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said President Ghani spoke with Iran FM JawadZarif via telephone today (Tuesday) afternoon.

The two sides talked about the battle against Covid-19, bilateral cooperation and Afghan refugees returning to the country.

Zarif assured President Ghani that his country will provide free of cost treatment to Afghan patients infected with coronavirus in Iran.

Earlier, Afghan Ambassador to Iran Abdul Ghafoor Liwal told Pajhwok that the Iran government had not yet shared the exact number of Afghan refugees infected with COVID-19 in Iran.

He said they had received informal information from migrant officials that around 50 Afghan refugees have lost thier lives to coronavirus.

It is worth mentioning that currently 423 people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Afghanistaninfo-icon and so far 14 have lost their lives while 20 others recovered from the pandemic.
