Apr 07, 2020 - 15:35

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nearly ten thousands Afghan passengers on Tuesday morning entered Afghanistaninfo-icon via Torkham pass without being screened for coronavirus, an official said.

Earlier, the Nangarhar governor said it has been decided that all passengers arriving from neighboring Pakistaninfo-icon would be quarantined for 14 to 21 days.

But, Mahmood Miakhel, said the decision was broken by the local governance and exempted 1,000 individuals from quarantine in Torkham Township late on Monday evening.

Mohammad Amin, deputy commissioner in Torkham port, told Pajhwok Afghan News that about ten thousands Afghan passengers on Tuesday morning flocked to the Torkham border and entered Afghanistan without their screening for coronavirus.

He said, “Due to large number of passengers, Pakistani officials were unable to control the crowd and reopened the gate. The passengers entered Afghanistan without being tested for the deadly virus.

On the other hand, Torkham mayor said they were concerned about the entry of thousands of people without being tested since yesterday.

He wrote on his social account that a number of powerful individuals and mafia groups with links with Pakistani forces created the situation at the gate.

He confirmed around 10,000 Afghan passengers entered Afghanistan without their passports stamped.
