KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Public representatives and residents of northern Kunduz province on Wednesday complained about inflated prices of food items in the province because of Covid-19 pandemic.

Fuzia Yaftali, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that prices of food items and other goods increased several times compared to their rates three weeks back in the province.

She added, “Prices of food-items drastically went up with the spread of coronavirus in the province.”

She said people in Kunduz were economically unsound and could not afford the price-hike.

Amruddin Wali, another provincial council member, told Pajhwok the government should take steps for controlling prices of food items in the province.

He said a month back, a 50-kg bag of four was sold for 1,200 afghanis but now it increased to 2,200afs in the province.

He said, “Prices of all primary goods increased across the province but there is no one to control them.”

Hakim Quraishi, a civil societyinfo-icon activist, told Pajhwok people will face with further difficulties if the government did not take steps in this regard.

Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Kunduz City, the provincial capital, said he worked against 200afs per say while seven kilograms of potato price had reached 270afs in the province”

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the government to check price hike in the province.
