KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Kunduz Provincial Council (PC) has criticised the absence of a coronavirus laboratory, warning of catastrophic situation in the near future.

PC Chairman Yousuf Ayubi accused the provincial government for its failure and negligence in the fight against coronavirus. He demanded the establishment of a laboratory to conduct coronavirus tests.

“Kunduz is the centre of the northeastern zone of the country. But, unfortunately, the government has not set up ny laboratory here,” the public representative lamented.

Safiullah Amiri, deputy head of the council, agreed the facility for Covid-19 tests could not be established so far in the province due to the weak administration in the province.

“If we had a responsible leader in the province, the situation would have been different. We want the central government to pay more attention to Kunduz because the local administration has done nothing to curtail the spread of coronavirus,” he remarked.

But Esmatullah Muradi, the governor’s spokesperson, said the president had approved one million afghanis for the fight against coronavirus in Kunduz. The provincial government has handed the centre a list of necessary equipment which, he hoped, would be delivered soon.

Public Healthinfo-icon Director Ehsanullah Fazli said he had urged the ministry concerned to set up a laboratory for coronavirus tests in the province. He hoped the facility would be established soon.
