Taliban reject truce, accuse US of violating pact

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon on Sunday again refused to declare ceasefire and accused the American and NATOinfo-icon forces of violating the agreement signed in Doha.

Zabiullah Mujahid, the group spokesman, said in a statement that despite the fact that American and internal officials continuously violated the peace agreement as common people lost their lives in daily bombings and night raids,

He said the Afghan government was not releasing as inmates threatened by coronavirus that as per the agreement.

Mujahid claimed the Afghan government was insising on demands unrelated to the peace agreement in order to divert attention away from the core issue at hand

“This is not for the first time Ashraf Ghani and international officials have asked for a ceasefire from the Islamic Emirates, but at the same time the Afghan government continues to remain an obstacle to the implementation of the agreement through which all sides could have ended the occupation, begun intra-Afghan negotiations and finally attained a ceasefire and dispute resolution”.

The agreement signed in Doha explicitly mentions the issue of a ceasefire but has sequenced it in the later phases of the agreement.

The agreement initially focuses on withdrawal of foreign forces and the exchange of prisoners so that a pathway is opened for intra-Afghan negotiations.

The issue of a ceasefire will be a topic in the intra-Afghan negotiations which shall be implemented after an agreement is reached (among all sides).

Mujahid said the Islamic Emirates once again reiterated that they remained committed only to what they had signed in the agreement.

“We believe that the solo path towards a resolution is to implement the agreement as sequenced phase by phase. We also call upon the opposition to give precedence to agreement implementation instead of demands that are irrational and before their time and to refrain from ineffective delay tactics.”

But the US and the NATO say it is in the peace agreement that they will support the Afghan security forces after the peace pact.
