Coronavirus infects 3m individuals globally

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The number of coronavirus-related deaths around the world has tapped 200,000, with three million people infected, news reports say.

After emerging in the Wuhan city of China last December, the COVID-19 pandemic has spread to at least 200 countries, affecting millions of individuals.

In the initial weeks, mostly Chinese people were infected and killed by the virus, which has now been controlled by Beijing. But the disease is currently spreading rapidly in Europe and America.

Statistics showed on Monday three million people have been infected worldwide and 200,005 have died from the disease -- most of them in European countries and the US.

Data from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States indicate nearly 900,000 people have recovered from the pandemic and returned to normal life globally.

Media reports say nearly one million individuals have contracted the virus in the US, where over 54,000 have been killed as of Monday morning.

More than 26,000 people died from the virus in Italy, 23,000 each in France and Spain. Covid-19 has claimed more than 20,000 lives in the United Kingdom.

Also on last Sunday, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Kabul said 68 new COVID-19 cases had been registered in Afghanistan, taking the nation’s tally to 1,531.

It added 207 Afghans had recovered and 50 others, including four doctors, died from the disease.
