KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Thousands of prisoners will be released on the occasion of the Mujahideeninfo-icon victory day against former Soviet Union with the aim to prevent coronavirus spread in the country’s jails.

Rashid Totakhel, director of prisons management of the country, told a press conference that at least 12,399 prisoners would be released based on President Ashraf Ghani’s decree on the occasion of the Jihadinfo-icon victory and to contain spread of coronavirus.

At least 12,399 prisoners would be released from prisons across the country, he said.

Totakhel did not provide details about the presidential decree, but asked the prisoners to stay for 14 days at home after their release because of coronavirus.

Earlier, the government has released thousands of prisoners to prevent coronavirus spread.
