Afghanistan detects 179 new coronavirus cases

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): About 180 people tested positive for coronavirus in Afghanistan in past 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally to 2469, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Saturday.

Dr. WahidullahMayar, spokesman for the ministry, told a media briefing here that 72 Afghan citizens, including four doctors, had lost their lives to the pandemic while 331 Afghans had recovered so far.

The new cases surfaced in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Ghazni, Baghlan, Logar, Takhar, Ghorinfo-icon, Zabul and Helmand provinces.

The official said 75 of the fresh cases were detected in Kabul, 23 in Herat, 18 in Balkh, 16 Jawzjan, 15 Kandahar, 10 in Ghazni, seven in Baghlan, five in Logar, four in Takhar, three in Ghor, two in Zabul and one in Helmand.

Mayar asked people to pay greater attention to adopting preventive measures and practicing guidelines offered by the ministry. “There is no vaccine yet to cure the virus.”

Of the 2,469 cases in Afghanistan, 692 have been detected in Kabul, 522 in Herat, 314 in Kandahar, 191 in Balkh, 84 in Paktia, 64 in Ghazni, 57 in Nangarhar, 52 in Nimroz, 47 in Baghlan, 46 in Takhar, 44 in Logar, 39 in Laghman, 37 in Kunduz,  42 in Ghazni, 34 in Takhar. 25 in Helmand, 29 Samangan, 21 in Kunar, 18 in Badghis, 24 in Panjsher, 14 in Paktika, 12 in Farah, 13 each in MaidanWardak and Ghor. 32 in Jawzan, 15 in Kapisa, nine each in Daikundi and Faryab.

At least 10 cases have been found in Zabul, seven each in Parwan and Sar-i-Pul, 11 in Bamyan, six in Khost, three in Uruzgan and two in Badakhshan.
