Taliban attacks kill 387 civilians, hurt 590

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon insurgents killed and wounded around 1,000 civilians in recently weeks nation-wide, the Ministry of Interior said on Saturday.

Tariq Aryan, spokesman for the MoI, told reporters at the Government Media Information center (GIMC that Taliban militants had increased their attacks in the country against all Islamic and human principles.

He said 387 civilians were killed and another 590 wounded in Taliban attacks during March and around 200 others were abducted.

He said in response while maintaining defensive posture the Afghans forces also killed 1400 militants.

He said security forces also arrested a Tajikistani national with links to Al-Qaeda network along with two associates in northeastern Badakhshan province.

He added 141 suspects, accused of different crimes, have been introduced to judicial and justice organs since the beginning of this year.

Almost a week back, the United Nations mission said more than 500 civilians, including over 150 children, were killed in the fighting in Afghanistan during the first quarter of 2020.

In a report, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistaninfo-icon (UNAMA) underlined the urgent need for all parties to the conflict to do more to protect civilians from harm, especially in view of the looming threat posed to all Afghans by COVID-19.
