Russia sees 10,000 Covid-19 cases in a single day

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Around 10,000 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Russia in a single day taking the country’s tally close to 145,000.

The state-run news agency, TASS, on Monday that more than 18,000 Russians had recovered from the pandemic, which has claimed 1,356 lives in the country so far.

According to the crisis center in Moscow, the daily growth rate of the coronavirus stands at 7.9 percent. Some 5,352 new cases (50.6 percent) are without any symptoms.

The news report said 5,795 new coronavirus cases had been confirmed in Moscow (with a daily growth rate at 8.4 percent), bringing the total number in the capital to 74,401.

New cases have also been registered in 81 Russian regions, including 803 in the Moscow, 317 in St. Petersburg, 280 in the Murmansk, 160 in the Republic of Dagestan, 157 in Nizhny Novgorod and 105 in the Kabardino-Balkar Republic.

A day earlier, 76 deaths were confirmed, including 35 in Moscow, five in the Vladimir Region and three in St. Petersburg, Bryansk, Kaliningrad and Tver, two in the Stavropol, the Komi Republic, the Volgograd, Voronezh, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk.

The US-based Johns Hopkins University informed that more than 3.5 million people across the worldinfo-icon had contracted COVID-19, a disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

So far, 3,502,126 people have contracted the virus worldwide and 247,107 have died. In total, 1,119,817 patients have recovered.

The highest number of infections has been documented in the US (1,156,924 cases), followed by Spain (217,466), Italy (210,717) and the UK (187,840).

In late December, Chinese officials notified the World Healthinfo-icon Organisation (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in Wuhan. Since then, COVID-19 cases have been reported in every corner of the globe.
