Kolkata match postponement disappoints Amiri

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The skipper of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s soccer team has voiced disappointment over the postponement of a match they were to play against India in the western state of Bengal,

The return-leg FIFA Worldinfo-icon Cup Qualifier was scheduled to be played in Kolkata. However, the match had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

In an interview with the All-India Football Federation, ex-skipper Zohaib Islam Amiri said: All my teammates were excited, asking me about Kolkata. It is disappointing that it got postponed...”

Indian TV channel News18 quoted him as saying: “We are looking forward to continuing the rivalry once football resumes…”

Amiri said he would tell his teammates that Kolkata was one of the best cities to host football matches. He called the ground as excellent.

He added: "We had everything ready in place and were looking forward to coming to India. But, unfortunately, the match was postponed. We were heartbroken."

Having represented several Indian clubs since 2011, he called India as his second home. Amiri said he had spent a large part of my life in India and that was why he loved its culture, people and food.
