KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): As prisoner exchanges continue, the Taliban announced on Sunday releasing 28 government soldiers in western Herat province.

Talibaninfo-icon spokesman Suhail Shaheen tweeted: “28 soldiers were freed in Herat and each one was given clothes and 5,000 afs in transport fare. This process will continue …”

The insurgents have so far released 188 government prisoners while the administration of President Ghani has freed more than 1,000 Taliban inmates.

Javed Faisal, spokesman for the National Security Council, asked the Taliban to reduce violence and thereby pave the ground for intra-Afghan talks.

Prisoner releases began on March 15 in line with the US-Taliban peace pact, which stipulated intra-Afghan after the release of 5,000 Taliban and 1,000 government prisoners.
