KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): As prisoner exchanges continue, the Talibaninfo-icon announced on Monday releasing 17 government soldiers in western Badghis province.

Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen tweeted: “17 soldiers were freed in Badghis and each one was given clothes and 5,000 afs in transport fare. This process will continue.”

The insurgents have so far released 210 government prisoners while the administration of President Ghani has freed more than 1,000 Taliban inmates.

Javed Faisal, spokesman for the National Security Council, asked the Taliban to reduce violence and thereby pave the ground for intra-Afghan talks.

Prisoner releases began on March 15 in line with the US-Taliban peace pact, which stipulates intra-Afghan after the release of 5,000 Taliban and 1,000 government prisoners.
