Kabul, Nangarhar attacks widely condemned

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United States (US), NATOinfo-icon, the United Kingdom and some other nations strongly condemned militant attacks in central Kabul and eastern Nangarhar provinces on Tuesday.

Sixteen people were killed, including womeninfo-icon and children, and 20 others injured in militants attack on a100-bed Maternity hospital at around in Dasht Barchi area, where Doctors without Borders runs a maternity clinic.

The gunmen attacked the Tariq Arian, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, told Pajhwok Afghan News the assault ended this afternoon with the killing of all the three attackers.

In a separate attack in Nangarhar province, nearly hundred people were killed and injured. The suicide bomber blew himself up in a funeral prayer of a former local commander.

Condemning the attacks US Chargé d’Affaires Ross Wilson said “Terrorists use violence to spread fear among the innocent. Those who attack a solemn ceremony like a funeral have no virtue or morality. I condemn the attack today in Nangarhar. Our deepest sympathy to the victims, friends, and families of those lost.”

Reacting to Kabul attack the top US diplomat said: “I deplore this barbaric attack & condemn the evil terrorists who target those who cannot defend themselves and who are already suffering. Hospitals are centers of compassion with dedicated Afghan and MSF Afghanistan staff caring for innocent civilians.”

NATO Senior Civilian Representative (SCR) Office also condemned the attacks in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.

“NATO is committed to Afghanistaninfo-icon in fight against terrorism and strongly condemned the attacks,” the NATO SCR office said.

Similarly, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Pakistaninfo-icon and some other countries condemned the attacks in separate statements.

Former President Hamid Karzai condemned the attacks and termed them inhuman and unacceptable.
