Afghan refugees in Pakistan to receive cash aid

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): About 36,000 Afghan refugee families living in Pakistaninfo-icon will receive Rs12,000 each in emergency cash assistance to meet their urgent needs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Pakistan government and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced the initiative benefiting the most vulnerable refugee families impacted by the pandemic.

UNHCR Deputy Representative in Pakistan Iain Hall and the Pakistan Post director general signed an agreement on the disbursement of emergency cash grants in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The UN refugee agency will initially target 36,000 refugee families, and if additional donor funds are secured, the humanitarian support will be expanded to more needy households.
