Afghanistan resumes pine nut exports to China

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon’s pine nut exporters to Chinese markets through the air corridor have resumed with the airlifting of more than 110 tonnes of the dried fruit.

Pine nut exports to China were suspended two months ago due to the coronavirus outbreak. A member of the Pine Nut Exporter Union said they had preparations but did not benefit from the harvest.

Exporter Sher Ali Zadran complained dried fruit merchants had suffered big losses over the past two months when their stored fruits lost considerable weight.

The estimated cost of a kilogram of pine nuts in Chinese markets is 2,800 afghanis. A kilogram of cleaned pine nuts accounts for up 7,000 afghanis, exporters say.

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) officials say the export of other products to India would resume soon through the air corridor.

ACCI head Zaman Hashimi said: “Our exports are not limited to pine nuts and the Chinese markets. This week, we will have four flights to India. We will export dry fruits and asafetida to Indian markets.”
