ACB hopes Test against Australia will go ahead

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon Cricket Board (ACB) hopes the national team will be able to play a planned Test match against Australia next summer.

ACB Chief Executive Lutfullah Stanikzai voiced his optimism of the Test against the Aussies going ahead in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.

"We are hopeful the financial side will be taken less into account but it will be more about extending a helping hand to Afghanistan, where we do not have a lot of international fixtures,” he said.

"We have communicated to them [CA] some time ago. There [hasn't] been any indication the Test will be cancelled or won't take place. We are very hopeful the match will take place."

The Test was originally scheduled to be played before the coronavirus breakout, which has forced ACB to slash coaching staff salaries by a quarter.

The Australian board has not yet said anything about the fate of the Test match or its venue. However, it would be a big moment for Afghanistan if the Test is to be played.
